हर घर सेहत — Diabetes Awareness Mission
— Why diabetes awareness matters now more than ever
India is now the diabetes capital of the world. Over 10 crore Indians live with diabetes, and a similar number are pre-diabetic — yet awareness about prevention, early detection, and daily management remains shockingly low.
Diabetes is largely a lifestyle disease. Sedentary routines, refined-carb diets, chronic stress and lack of regular health check-ups together drive the rise. The good news: a large share of Type 2 cases can be prevented, delayed, or significantly better-managed through simple, consistent daily habits.
HarGharSehat brings this knowledge directly into Indian homes through free workshops — covering early warning signs, what to test and when, how to read your reports, and the four practical habits that protect long-term health.
🩸 Awareness is the first step. Prevention is the cure.

of Type 2 diabetes cases can be prevented or reversed through lifestyle changes — diet, exercise, yoga, and awareness.
Diabetes is no longer an "old age" disease. Indians as young as 25-30 are being diagnosed due to sedentary lifestyles.
HarGharSehat (हर घर सेहत — "Health in Every Home") is Life Saver India Foundation's diabetes awareness and prevention mission. We help Indian families understand, prevent, detect, and manage diabetes through practical, science-backed lifestyle education.
India has over 10 crore diabetics, yet awareness about prevention remains shockingly low. Most people discover their condition only after complications begin — kidney damage, vision loss, nerve problems, or heart disease. HarGharSehat intervenes at the awareness stage — before diabetes takes hold.
Through free community workshops, school programs, and digital content, we teach families how to recognize warning signs, make simple dietary changes, adopt daily exercise habits, and understand when to seek medical help. Our motto: har ghar mein sehat ka gyaan — health knowledge in every home.
Four simple, science-backed daily habits that protect against diabetes — simplified for every Indian family
Daily yoga practices specifically designed for blood sugar control — Surya Namaskar, Pranayama, Mandukasana, and stress-reducing meditation. Yoga improves insulin sensitivity and reduces cortisol, a key factor in diabetes management. Our workshops teach simple 20-minute routines anyone can follow at home.
Regular physical activity is one of the most powerful weapons against diabetes. We teach walking routines, simple home exercises, and daily movement habits that lower blood sugar naturally. Just 30-45 minutes of brisk walking daily can reduce diabetes risk by up to 30%.
Indian-specific dietary guidance — what to eat and what to avoid. We focus on traditional Indian foods that help control blood sugar: millets (bajra, jowar, ragi), green vegetables, dal, curd, and fiber-rich foods. Simple swaps like replacing white rice with brown rice, maida with atta, and sugar with jaggery in moderation.
We emphasize the importance of regular health checkups, HbA1c testing, and proper medical consultation. While lifestyle changes are powerful, they work best alongside professional medical advice. We teach families how to monitor blood sugar at home and when to see a doctor.
If you or a family member shows these symptoms, get tested immediately
Constantly feeling thirsty, even after drinking water. Your body tries to flush out excess sugar.
Going to the bathroom much more often, especially at night. Kidneys work overtime to filter excess glucose.
Feeling tired all the time despite adequate sleep. Your cells aren't getting the energy they need from glucose.
Sudden vision changes or difficulty focusing. High blood sugar damages tiny blood vessels in the eyes.
Cuts, bruises, and infections take much longer to heal. High sugar impairs blood circulation and immune response.
Numbness, tingling, or burning sensation in extremities. Early sign of diabetic nerve damage (neuropathy).
Losing weight without trying. Body starts burning fat and muscle for energy when it can't use glucose properly.
Feeling hungry shortly after eating. Cells are starving for energy even though blood sugar is high.
