साफ़ साँस — हर सांस सेहत · Clean Air for Healthy Lives
— And India is on the front line
Climate change is not a far-away problem. It is already shaping the air Indians breathe, the heat their bodies endure, and the diseases they face. Air pollution kills nearly 1.7 million Indians every year — more than tobacco. Heatwaves trigger cardiac arrests, dehydration, and kidney failure. Poor air quality worsens diabetes, asthma, and heart disease.
SaafSaans (साफ़ साँस — "Clean Breath") is Life Saver India Foundation's mission to bring climate and health awareness into every Indian home. Because the climate crisis isn't somewhere out there — it's inside our lungs, our hospitals, and our future.
Through free workshops, school programs, and digital content, we teach Indian families how to protect themselves from air pollution and heatwaves, adopt green daily habits, and understand the powerful link between climate, lifestyle, and lifelong health.
🌿 हर सांस सेहत — Every Breath = Health
From the air we breathe to the heat we endure — the numbers are alarming
Indians die each year from air pollution — more than tobacco. WHO calls this a global health emergency.
most polluted cities in the world are in India. Delhi, Lucknow, Patna, Kolkata regularly top the global AQI rankings.
average life expectancy lost by Indians due to PM2.5 air pollution — even higher in North Indian states.
summer temperatures crossed in multiple Indian cities in recent years. Heatstroke kills thousands annually.
of India's population lives in regions with severely declining air quality — children & elderly hit hardest.
Heatwaves and air pollution dramatically increase the risk of sudden cardiac arrest. Climate + heart = direct link.
SaafSaans (साफ़ साँस — "Clean Breath") is Life Saver India Foundation's climate & health mission. We connect the dots between the air Indians breathe, the heat they endure, the habits they live by — and their long-term health outcomes.
Most Indians know smoking is bad. Fewer know that breathing Delhi or Lucknow air is, on many days, the equivalent of smoking 10–20 cigarettes. Heatwaves are intensifying. Plastic and waste-burning are silently filling our lungs and bloodstreams. These aren't future problems — they are killing Indians today.
Through free community workshops, school programs, and digital content, SaafSaans teaches families how to read AQI, protect themselves on bad-air days, stay safe during heatwaves, and adopt small green daily habits that protect both their family's health and India's future. Our motto: har sansaar mein saaf saans — clean breath in every home.
Practical awareness that helps Indian families breathe easier & live longer
Learn to read AQI like a weather report. Understand PM2.5, PM10 and what they actually do to the lungs and heart. Know which mask works, when to keep children indoors, indoor air purification basics, and small habits that protect long-term lung capacity — especially for kids, elderly, asthmatics and those with heart disease.
India is heating up. Workshops cover heat-stress recognition, hydration strategies, who is most vulnerable (elderly, children, outdoor workers), how to identify and respond to heatstroke, and the strong link between extreme heat and sudden cardiac arrest — connecting directly with our HarHaathCPR mission.
Small everyday actions that protect both your family's health and the environment: avoiding plastic and waste-burning, opting for active transport (walking/cycling) when AQI is safe, planting trees, conserving water, segregating waste, and growing indoor air-purifying plants like tulsi, money plant, and snake plant.
Climate is not someone else's problem. We teach Indian families practical, low-cost ways to reduce their footprint — using less single-use plastic, mindful electricity use, choosing local seasonal food, supporting clean public transport, and engaging with local authorities on civic air-quality issues.
How to recognize when your body is being affected — and act before damage compounds
Feeling winded climbing stairs or walking. PM2.5 inflames lungs and reduces oxygen exchange — especially noticeable in winter months.
Dry cough lasting weeks, especially in polluted seasons. Common in Delhi-NCR Oct-Feb. Your lungs are trying to clear pollutants.
Itchy, watery, or burning eyes on bad-air days — and headaches that get worse outdoors. Direct effect of high AQI.
Hot dry skin, confusion, rapid heartbeat, no sweating despite heat. Medical emergency — move to shade, cool the body, call 108.
Dark urine, dizziness, dry mouth, no urine for hours during heat. Drink ORS, water with salt & sugar, coconut water. Stay indoors.
Inhaler use spikes during high AQI or pollen days. Pollution + heat = double trigger for asthmatics, COPD, and heart patients.
Difficulty concentrating, sleep disturbance, low energy — increasingly linked in research to long-term high air pollution exposure.
Chest tightness or palpitations spike during smog and heatwaves. Both are major triggers for cardiac arrest — never ignore.
⚠️ Check your local AQI daily on bad-air days. Use the SAFAR India app or CPCB website.
Good: 0-50 · Satisfactory: 51-100 · Moderate: 101-200 · Poor: 201-300 · Very Poor: 301-400 · Severe: 401+
